In Connecticut it was too hot to do much, the humidity was intense. We took a boat tour of the Thimble Islands. Lioni explained to us that there is one rich woman who tries to buy up every island that goes on the market and then leaves them there empty. You can tell which ones are hers because of her flag flying like the Jolly Roger.
While flying around the US I was reading The Left Hand of Darkness by Ursula K. Le Guin. I found the trip hard going because of the heat, the screaming children in Connecticut, the overwhelming-ness of New York, the wedding across the border in Ontario and on top of that always knowing that when I got home my dog would be gone.
My dog is still gone.
